Every collaboration begins with a conversation. Sometimes it starts with words. Sometimes it begins with admiration. Where the Strings Flow grows from a friendship between RV Basco and Astrid Castillo-Almario, two artists whose practices developed along separate paths but whose visual languages share the same sensitivity to memory, tenderness, and care. Long before this exhibition, each recognized something familiar in the other’s work. This exhibition is the result of that mutual respect. It is less a meeting of styles than an exchange of trust, where each artist allows the other’s imagination to enter and reshape their own
The exhibition draws together the visual worlds that define both artists. Basco’s figures, children, birds, and paper cranes speak through absence rather than narrative. Castillo-Almario’s paint- ings of garments, lace, ribbons, and folded textiles preserve the quiet lives of objects that have outlasted the moments they once belonged to. Here, these motifs begin to overlap. Dresses become stand-ins for memory. Blue birds settle upon empty forms. Origami birds drift between paintings like messages carried across distance. Delicate threads, whether visible or implied, connect one work to another. The title suggests both the literal strings that appear throughout the exhibition and the unseen ties that bind people together through affection, admiration, and shared experience.
