A self-taught artist based in Caloocan, Kwin Chi (b. 1989) began her career working as a muralist and tattoo artist before fully venturing into the art scene as a fulltime painter. Blending her rich creative trajectory with a nuanced exploration of childhood aesthetics, her approach to painting is characterized by a synthesis of technical proficiency and conceptual rigor that pivoted her artistic identity to where it is today.
Kwin Chi’s artistic inclination started with her participation in local school art competitions during her early years that not only honed her technical skills, but also afforded her the opportunity to experiment with diverse artistic approaches. This experience became a crucible for her artistic evolution, allowing her to refine her craft and explore the dynamic interplay between form and content. Her wide-eyed, doll-like paintings, often adorned in vibrant costume and whimsical compositions, serve as both a testament to her skill and a reflection of the influence drawn from personal yet unconventional sources.
