“Elevating the Everyday: A Buhay Pinoy Exhibit”
Galerie Joaquin Podium
February 26 – March 07, 2026
Genre painting has long served as a mirror to collective life—recording rituals, labor, devotion, and the quiet poetry of the everyday. Vanguard of Genre Art gathers four contemporary artists—Aldrino Abes, William Alvarez, Richard Arimado, and Ronnel Cainto—whose works reaffirm the vitality of this tradition while pushing it forward through distinct formal and material languages. This exhibition continues the momentum of Buhay Pinoy: A Grand Celebration held at Art Lounge Manila – Podium last January, extending that earlier survey into a more focused presentation of artists who stand at the forefront of genre’s contemporary resurgence. Together, they demonstrate that genre art is not a nostalgic exercise but an evolving field—capable of reinvention while remaining rooted in lived experience.
As a collective, these artists stand at the forefront of genre’s renewal. Each retains fidelity to the depiction of ordinary lives while reimagining composition, perspective, and medium. This exhibit affirms that the everyday remains inexhaustible—its gestures, gatherings, and labors continually offering artists fertile ground for interpretation. To these artists, genre art is not static heritage but a living, forward-moving practice—anchored in memory, attuned to the rhythms of contemporary life.
