Ycoy Sitchon’s latest solo exhibition at Galerie Joaquin Rockwell marks a pivotal moment in the artist’s creative journey as she explores her ever-evolving artistic identity. Embarking on her foray into the visual arts in 2024, having mounted three solo exhibitions and an installation at the Modern and Contemporary Art Festival, Sitchon continues to explore the visual character of flowers through her art. This recurring subject in her works is rooted in precious childhood memories. Having grown up in a home with a garden and working as an event planner, flowers have played an important role throughout the artist’s life, making them a natural muse for her paintings.
The crux of “Floriensoul” lies in Sitchon’s signature style, marked by the multicolored fusion of abstract and realist expression that continues to metamorphose alongside the artist. Meticulously rendered in a curated palette ranging from dainty pastels to dramatic dark tones, each composition mirrors the complexity of Sitchon’s inner world while allowing her to examine the multifaceted conceptual dimensions of each piece. This collection features the artist’s latest experiments in mixed media as she introduces three-dimensional and four-dimensional elements to her works. Branching forth from acrylic painting, Sitchon’s manipulation of textures through clays and pastes allows her signature floral arrangements to almost spring to life as they bloom from each canvas in a dazzling display of hues. These techniques reflect Sitchon’s creative spirit, constantly looking for ways to push the boundaries of her craft through texture and form while maintaining the essence of her visual style.
The creative journey highlighted in “Floriensoul" is elevated through Sitchon’s collaboration with Suki Jewelry, a Manila-based contemporary fine jewelry brand that celebrates individuality and boundless possibilities through artisan-crafted pieces. Viewers are sure to be delighted by the elegant beauty of the gold and floral motifs featured in this exclusive collection. Each piece brilliantly complements the exhibition, adding a touch of luxury and opulence as this launch of finely crafted treasures bloom alongside Sitchon’s delicately painted florals.
"Floriensoul" represents not only a visual transformation but also a constant artistic evolution, where Ycoy Sitchon interlaces traditional mediums with her innovative approach to art making. This exhibition highlights her perpetual pursuit of artistic expression, reflecting the constant metamorphosis of her soul and its different facets, thus the title of the exhibition. As viewers traverse this collection, they are invited to experience the continued development of Sitchon’s works as she hones the different dimensions of her craft while maintaining her aesthetic foundations.
