Aner Sebastian’s “Biomorphic Elements” at Galerie Joaquin Rockwell

Our continuous discovery of the natural world gives us opportunities to realize the incredible depth, complexity and intricacies of nature. Biomorphism is an aesthetic style that attempts to capture the beauty of nature, through rhythmic, decorative forms and intricate patterns.

Artist Aner Sebastian highlights these life forms/shapes as elements in his art by evoking a sense of movement and fluidity in his pieces. Through callbacks to nature, he zeroes in on the interconnectedness of all living things. Also evident in this collection is a depiction of his own life lessons and experiences interspersed within the colors in his canvas.

He takes his viewers on a visual journey through several realms of what is already familiar but broken down into even more reimagined renditions of his abstractions. Sebastian uses his distinct style to capture nature in its infinite beauty paying particular attention to the parts within the whole - the elements that constitute it.

Aner Sebastian (b.1964) is a visual artist hailing from Manila. He is a fine arts graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts Major in Painting from Eulogio Amang Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology (EARIST). He began a serious career path in painting after a series of successful engagements in different art competitions from the 1980s, late 1990s, to early 2000s. His experience in art competitions and group exhibits abroad such as Europe, US, Canada, and Asia adds to his serious pursuit in creating art. Sebastian also became a faculty of the FEATI School of Fine Arts from 2005 to 2018, proudly mentoring several fine arts students who are also actively enthralled in painting.
