Exhibit runs September 5 to 12, 2023
La Salle Greenhills High School Alumni Association (LSGHAA) has partnered with Galerie Joaquin in organizing an art exhibition titled "Green Light 2023" primarily aimed to raise funds for the projects of the LSGHAA. In particular, funds are being raised for the benefit of its scholarship program as well as the Alternative Learning System (ALS) of La Salle Greenhills. The ALS is a program for underprivileged and undereducated men and women that will allow them to finish and complete their education and receive a diploma for either grade school or high school within one year.
Various artists have come together to render works around the theme of the color green and emerald – the symbol and color attached to the school. The exhibit includes green emerald-like glass sculptures by Marge Organo, sculptures by Michael Cacnio and Jerry Morada, and paintings by Juvenal Sansó, Federico Aguilar Alcuaz, Dominic Rubio, Aileen Lanuza, Vincent De Pio, Averil Paras, Camille Ver, Milmar Onal, Art Lozano, Patrick Esmao, and Katrina Cuenca among others.
Colors of the Alma Mater
The association of the color green with La Salle started with the maiden issue in Manila of the student publication in 1924 called “Green and White”. The colors are grounded in the traditions of the university's founding religious orders. It originated from the national colors of Ireland, (the “Emerald Isles” where the founding fathers of the De La Salle Brothers in the Philippines came from), and the Philippines (“Pearl of the Orient Seas”, or “pearly white”).
La Salle Core Values
Green, often associated with life, nature, verdant plant life, growth, harmony and balance, also represents vigor of approach and dedication in chosen tasks - precisely what the La Salle Core Values of Service and Communion are all about. The La Salle community represented by the LSGHAA commits to being socially responsible in building a just and stable nation and building a community that will participate in actively improving the quality of life in Philippine society within the perspective of Christian ideals and values through its projects.
The La Salle community is known to have produced successful professionals in the fields of business and financial endeavors. Through this exhibit, the organizers would also like to emphasize that arts and culture are important interests of the La Salle community.
