View An Ode to Nature Gallery“An Ode to Nature” by Francis Evangelista, on view at Galerie Joaquin Podium
Exhibit run: March 2 - 11, 2023Portrayals of the environment are considered essential in figurative abstraction, as the concept’s universality can extend to leaps and bounds of artistic expression. Humans are intrinsically connected to nature and its evolution – our scientific and philosophical parallel to its elements both effectively create change, progress, and development. Francis Evangelista is an adaptor and a creator that is driven by this notion, illustrating an interpretation of nature that reflects and dedicates his relationship to the greenery around him.
“An Ode to Nature”, the artist’s first solo exhibition with Galerie Joaquin, is a vibrant and spirited opus of work inspired and dedicated to the fascinating nuances of trees. Evangelista’s acquired artistic skill further takes certain features from his chosen subject and illustrates an oeuvre of recurring shapes, patterns, colors, and forms – imitating, at the same time, creating a kind of nature that forms exciting interpretations anew.
The works are described as a fascinating juxtaposition of modern, contemporary, traditional, and abstract art with remarkable attention to lines and color. In particular, his oeuvre consists of figurative yet abstract interpretations of nature – persistent shapes and colors illustrated to form forest scapes of towering heights that contain varying colors and textured lines. Each colored line is intricately designed: splashed, rugged yet definite forms are embellished to bring out texture, similar to fabric textiles.
With these in mind, the exhibition hopes to reinforce and celebrate the importance of nature and its implicit relation to the human spirit.
Francis G. Evangelista is a self-taught artist hailing from Rizal. From his formative years, the artist gained a passionate interest in the arts primarily influenced by his grandfather, who was an arc designer for the traditional Santa Cruzan. Strengthening his passion, he started painting in high school and graduated from the University of Rizal System, with his works inspired by the Honorable National Artist Fernando Amorsolo. It was during this time that Francis discovered the valuable impact of adept artistry in becoming a memorable artist.
Evangelista has kept a promising artistic career, continuing to shape and hone his craft by becoming a professional art teacher and conducting exclusive lessons for selected students. He’s a member of the Artipolo Group Inc. based in Antipolo, Rizal, and has actively participated in notable art competitions, murals, and commissioned works. He’s also one of Galerie Joaquin’s rising artists.
“An Ode to Nature” by Francis Evangelista will be on view from March 2 - 11, 2023 with the Artist Reception slated for March 8, Wednesday at 5 PM.
