“Tipos Del Pais” on view at Galerie Joaquin BGC

Galerie Joaquin BGC Opens it’s 2023 art year January 28

In its first major exhibit to open the 2023 art season, Galerie Joaquin BGC Presents “Dominic Rubio’s “Tipos Del Pais”.

By definition “Tipos Del Pais” translate to Philippine archetypes. In 1821, the awarding director of Manila’s Academica del Dibujo y Pintura presented a series of water color paintings depicting the figures, clothes, commerce and activities of the residents of the Philippine archipelago. This was the time when the camera and photography were not readily available.

Today, a good 100 years later artist Dominic Rubio appropriates the epitomic value of Domingo’s work to depict and record a multi-class, multi-sectoral society that composes our country in his own style and in his own manner. With painstaking research undertaken on Filipino architecture and period costumes, Rubio presents a world of his own creation.

Rubio presents today’s archetypes as coming from varying social backgrounds, occupations and ethnicity performing myriad functions or even day to day task wearing glistered clothing and accessories and bearing diverse tools of their trade or concern.

Rubio’s creative portrayal of today’s archetypes depict everyday life in the countryside including vendors, farmers, fisherfolk and cockfight aficionados to the centerfold in urban areas promenading about the city and main places or moving about in their chosen modes of transportation if not playing their favorite musical instrument.

The final salvo in a trilogy of major exhibits “Dominic Rubio’s” Tipos Del Pais runs from Saturday, January 28 to February 6, 2023 with the artist reception scheduled on Saturday, January 28 at 4:00 PM.
