The Emerald Exhibit: 20 Years of Galerie Joaquin
A voluminous offering of works by top masters and some of today’s most prominent artists is featured in Galerie Joaquin’s The Emerald Exhibit: 20 Years of Galerie Joaquin which unfolds at two important venues, namely The Gallery – Amphitheater at the 2nd level of Greenbelt 5 in Makati City and The East Atrium, The East Wing of Shangri-La Plaza Mall in Mandaluyong City. This exhibit is indeed a lush homage to two decades of upholding artistic excellence and innovation by the Galerie Joaquin Group underscoring its indelible mark on the landscape of Philippine art.
Established in 2002 in San Juan City, Galerie Joaquin began carving its own course as a platform to showcase the country’s rich artistic landscape, while projecting its promising future. The group has since grown to embrace multiple branches and sister galleries across the country, as well as related institutions and publications, holding fast to its mission to cultivate widespread access to and appreciation of our unique artistic identity. Now in its emerald year, the gallery reflects back on its journey with renewed spirit as it continues to look forward towards its abiding goal of pushing the possibilities and potentials of Philippine artistry.
The collection at both Greenbelt and the East Wing of Shangrila Mall features a breadth of works reflecting the wide range of modern and contemporary artistic sensibilities of the top artists and masters the gallery has championed in its twenty years. Throughout its storied history, the gallery has worked with some of the most important artists of the past decades, from National Artists Federico Aguilar Alcuaz, Arturo Luz, and Abdulmari Imao to Presidential Medal of Merit Awardee and internationally renowned masters Juvenal Sanso and Ramon Orlina, Justin Nuyda, Ed Castrillo, Raul Isidro, Lito Carating, Mario Parial, Angelito Antonio, Norma Belleza, Raul Lebajo, Michael Cacnio, Dominic Rubio, Edwin Wilwayco, Carlo Magno, and Marge Organo, among others.
Gathered from Galerie Joaquin’s diverse representation of abstract and figurative oeuvres, the works are lush with strong accents and individually developed modernist manifestos ranging from Sanso’s lush floral compositions that find resonance with Carating’s minimalist abstract impressionism and Marge Organo’s inspired glass art. Modernist Parial’s works complement genre masters Antonio and Belleza as well as neo-genre master Rubio, offering unique depictions of the modern form. Alcuaz’s deep and strong abstracts on the other hand, serve as contrapunto to Wilwayco’s lyrical orchestrations.
The Emerald Exhibit: 20 Years of Galerie Joaquin is on view from November 16 to 29, 2022, at The Gallery – Amphitheater at the 2nd level of Greenbelt 5 in Makati City and at the The East Atrium, The East Wing of Shangri-La Plaza Mall in Mandaluyong City, from November 20 to 30, 2022.
