Visual artists Patrick Esmao and Jomike Tejido invite us into a universe of exalting landscapes and cityscapes, intricately visualized through ideation of a promised land: a world in a state of high power, grandiose, and fantasy. With the artists’ skilled background in the field of Architecture, the works for “Above and Beyond'' are visual illustrations of elevated and progressive compositions in science, technology and design, with Esmao’s recognizable techniques of urban elevations and Tejido’s fantastic views of mystical imagery.

Patrick Esmao’s oeuvre of structural buildings depict a cityscape of towering heights – distinct skylines over colorful gradients of horizon, emanating a sense of luminosity bolstered by the artist’s masterful method of threaded outlines and clean-cut silhouettes of figurative buildings and mountains. Esmao’s progressive concepts of art and architecture are ever remarkable, challenging perspectives of modern cityscape culture and identity.

In complement and contrast, Jomike Tejido’s approach embodies a world inspired and supported by the environment, intersecting concepts of nature and design for inhabitation primarily inspired by mid-century modern style. These concepts are manifested in Tejido’s works of predominantly dome-shaped forms, intertwined by bright and lively abstractions of nature’s elements. The artist hopes for these ideas to be an inspiration for the advancement of conceptual design and human sustainability, never forgetting the importance and majestic gifts of nature.

Patrick Esmao (b.1986) is a visual artist hailing from Baras, Rizal. He took up Education at the University of Rizal System, Major in Drafting. In 2008, together with three other friends, he organized a group in Morong, Rizal known as the MUSTRA ARTISTS GROUP. Esmao excelled in the area of commercial arts where he developed his knowledge in colors, composition, design principles, and self-expression through visual media.

As an illustrator with two decades of experience, Jomike Tejido (b.1982) has over 100 children’s books illustrated in Manila and the USA. He specializes in being an author-illustrator of book series production to take books to the next level and make toys out of their characters. Foreign publications include a Little & Brown Co., Scholastic, Highlights Magazine, Oxford University Press, McGraw-Hill, Capstone, Walter Foster Jr. and The Hachette Book Group and National Geographic to name a few.

"Above and Beyond" by Patrick Esmao and Jomike Tejido will be on view from October 4 to 13, 2022 with the Artist Reception scheduled on October 7, Friday at 5:pm.
