“Memories of Solace” serves as a visual memoir of April Lopez’ collected experiences and learnings as an artist. In her first solo exhibition with Galerie Joaquin, the artist aims to capture existential memories and transform them into works of unwavering abstraction–tangible yet enough to evoke perceptions of fleeting memories.

Themes of nature are a vital aspect for the works in the exhibition. The artist has always been inclined with the harmonious forces of nature. Growing up in the province, she recalls being surrounded with the sight of leaves, clouds, and waves of the ocean. “The cool breeze of fresh air in our province is my favorite … I love how it will make the leaves in my mother’s garden move as if they’re waving at me,” the artist mentions.

With these pure elements and with years of continued practice, April Lopez has mastered an art style that is distinct to her vivid recollection of the times gone by. Her memories of the past bring forth a collection of works driven to evoke an ascension of wave-like forms, vibrant and endearing in every way, and structured to look in oscillating motion.

The exhibition establishes a notion of ever-changing nuances driven by the abstraction of nature. The works act as a visual presentation of the permanent changes in life that determine feelings and understandings of the natural forces beyond our control, yet acting as a guide to set out one’s life journey.

April Lopez (b. 1985) is a self-taught artist born in Bulacan. Her artistic process is linked to her intimate connection with elemental forces of nature as well as her fervent passion for the arts, always willing to learn and grow in every step of her journey as a visual artist. Mastering her craft since 2014 with oil as her primary medium, her abstract imagery stems from personal anecdotes about life–from being a child surrounded by nature, to an artist determined to visualize a glimpse of life through different brush strokes, hues, and silhouettes.

April Lopez has kept a steadfast trajectory in the art scene by being an active participant in various group exhibitions since 2020, earning her two solo online exhibitions showcased at Galerie Joaquin Shop and Art Plus Collectibles. She is also one of Galerie Joaquin’s rising artists.

“Memories of Solace” by April Lopez will be on view from September 6 to 15, 2022 with the Artist Reception scheduled on September 9, Friday at 5PM.
