View Song of the Open Road Gallery“Song of the Open Road” by Art Lozano at Galerie Joaquin Podium
Show runs March 15 to 25Most of Art Lozano’s paintings are comprised of two main elements: nature and the idea of travel. A solitary subject illuminated on a vast plane of greenery invites the viewer to feel a sense of isolation, but at the same time, warmth and safety in the featured automobile, with freedom to move about in the seemingly boundless space.
An open road leading to a vanishing point symbolizes the future, and the journey that one takes to get there. Lozano’s aim is to create work that evokes sentimental feelings in the viewer, and transcends them to a place where life is simple and unobstructed. Lozano’s works for “Song of the Open Road” are rooted in a drive to uncover the mystery of the human condition-- the intense specificity of identity, space and time, as well as the factors that move beyond it.
This exhibit asks the question: what does it mean to be in touch with reality while also feeling for other possible roads to travel outside of what appears inevitable?
“Afoot and light-hearted I take to the open road, Healthy, free, the world before me, The long brown path before me leading wherever I choose.
Henceforth I ask not good-fortune, I myself am good-fortune, Henceforth I whimper no more, postpone no more, need nothing, Done with indoor complaints, libraries, querulous criticisms, Strong and content I travel the open road.” -- An excerpt from “Song of the Open Road”, a poem by Walt Whitman
Art Lozano is described to be a “quiet environmentalist” who develops his unique talent to convey a message. He believes his works can be an instrument to propel the message to focus on earth’s pristine beauty. His is the dream that his paintings urge people to act and take full responsibility in preserving Mother Nature. Ultimately, as he bares his soul through these works, Lozano entices his audience to interpret his works with a critical eye and an open mind.
A painter from Ilocos, Arthur “Art” Lozano has, since 2000, been garnering recognition by various award giving bodies which include the AAP Annual Art Competition, Metro Bank Art and Design Excellence National Competition, GSIS Art Award, and the Philip Morris Art Award. He is currently a member of the renowned Baguio Tam-awan Artist Group.
