Joseph Albao’s “Hymns of Nature” continues his lifelong search of connection to a higher source in the forest among the trees, animals, and wildflowers. For this exhibit, Albao explores the spirituality rooted in female power. Through his paintings, he connects to metaphysical practices that inherently position women as mystics who are able to align with natural forces both observed and veiled.

Images of humans, mostly female, in various states are highly decorated and surrounded with nature and instruments of hymn. The interaction of the elements in Albao’s images reveals how humans are connected to the life force of the sun, earth and sea and its natural vibrations.

The paintings directly and purposefully reclaim humanity’s natural feminine source. Each artwork celebrates beauty and tranquil power, as a direct act of insurgence against systems within conventional society. “Hymns of Nature” invites the viewers to question social norms while providing a pathway to connect with a deeper source within.

“Hymns of Nature” by Joseph Albao will be on view from October 10 to 19, 2020 at Galerie Joaquin at the U.P. Town Center. The Galerie is located at the 2nd floor of Phase 2 U.P.
