Rudolf Gonzalez’ “New Day” exhibits at Galerie Joaquin Podium

Show runs March 11 to 20, 2019 By Grace A. Ng

Rudolf Gonzalez’ panoramic paintings are powerful, dynamic and genuinely hypnotic, taking inspiration from life, the ocean, and the energy around the artist.

Gonzalez discovered an emotive power within the essential clarity of his vivid memory, a tool that he uses to execute his artworks. Focusing on exploration, the artist’s creative spirit results in an emphatic connection between the audience and his work. The paintings themselves become a memory and an artifact symbolic of the artist’s memories of Hawaii, where he spent a considerable part of his life, that brought the painting into creation. The natural inspirations come from its picturesque coastline -- a landscape blessed with brilliant cobalt blue skies that meet the powerful oceans filled with endless shades of blue, rich red sunsets, and emerald green surroundings.

His paintings are considered to be about renewal, about life coming from and out of a storm. They convey harmony and balance with the crackle of energy. They capture the expansive, unrelenting power of nature.

Gonzalez has an innate interest in the effects of the world around us on the human psyche and emotion. Individual clouds and particular skies adapt characteristics as distinct and complex as humanity itself. Gonzalez hopes that his works will have an effect on the mood of daily life in equally complex ways, often provoking and inspiring in various ways. His vision of landscapes under skies in soft focus remains suggestive of a dreamlike place and time. His aim is to identify, define and portray these through especially significant panoramas.

Rudolf Gonzalez is exceptionally empathic in his ability to evoke emotions through his visuals. A master of seascapes, he has exhibited in numerous expositions in Chicago and Los Angeles, and his works have been carried by galleries in the U.S. and Japan. Gonzalez embodies the seascape genre through a practice that perfectly captures the interplay of light and shadow evoking the expressionistic latitude of the human emotion.
