“Neo-Conceptualism 2019” exhibit opens at Galerie Joaquin U.P. Town Center

On view from January 16 to 25: abstract works for 2019

Abstract art has the ability to express what other visual art styles cannot. It can address concepts that are intangible and theoretical, existing in the realms of mind and spirit, rather than in outer reality. Abstract art utilizes pure color, shape, and form to express its meaning, without getting bogged down in the storylines carried by objects and scenery. As such, it can touch the emotions in a fresh, raw and powerfully direct way.

It is these immaterial and internal ideas and feelings that are explored by the show “Neo-Conceptualism 2019”. Creating is about paying attention – in noticing the particular. Inspirations are found in poetry, nature, the universal rhythms of life, emotions, and different states of being. “Things” can be metaphors for greater truths. The artists are collectively intrigued by the form, line, and patterns found in nature and of the story they tell -- not the obvious one that defines and object, but the narrative that portrays the intangible, the veiled, the mysterious. As such, the works displayed are about life; a blending of the external and internal, matter and spirit, observation and response.

Galerie Joaquin at U.P. Town Center brings together fourteen (14) artists for “Neo-Conceptualism 2019”, with works focusing on the emerging advent of the abstract genre in the Philippine art scene.

Movement is one of the defining characteristics of the works and the initial observations on the pieces are gestural, connecting action with emotion as in lyrical dance or music. The second, and all subsequent marks, are an intuitive response to the first. The composition evolves as each of the artist work on their craft, building layers over the textured surface and using color to create a sense of depth. The exhibit serves as an invitation for the audience to look beneath the surface of color, texture, and form and to uncover new ways of encountering themselves and discovering a world rich with possibility and promise.

Galerie Joaquin showcases the abstract masterpieces with works by Raul Isidro, Ombok Villamor, Aner Sebastian, Fitz Herrera, Marco Coching, Milmar Onal, Marge Organo, Perfecto Palero, Jay Ragma, Caress Banson, Kenneth John Montegrande, Gary Custodio, Wilbert Custodio and Camille Ver. “Neo-Conceptualism 2019” will be on view from January 16 - 25, 2019 with the Artist Reception scheduled for Wednesday, January 16 at 6PM. The gallery is located on the 2nd Level of Phase 2, UP Town Center, Katipunan Ave, Diliman, Quezon City. For inquiries, contact Galerie Joaquin at (+63)2 247 1109 or email galeriejoaquin@gmail.com.
