Imagine pieces that belong to the gothic chambers of a cultured, well-travelled, and sophisticated man – metal objects of craft belonging to dens, cloakrooms, libraries of gentlemen such as Phileas Fogg or Dorian Grey. Ram Mallari’s fascination with the dystopian relationship of man, nature and machine provides a rewarding vision of the world in which futuristic ecstasy is presented as mechanical, as well as precise. For the first time, the artist will be exhibiting his retro-futuristic works at U.P. Town Center, Diliman, Quezon City.

“Metallurgy et Mechanica” will be featuring techno victorian-themed disguises from Optimus Prime to dragons inspired by mystical fantasies from the popular series “Game of Thrones.” Mallari’s warriors, superheroes, battle stations, even his steampunk armored dogs were formerly automotive parts, desktop computer casing, and pipes, hose valves and power-supply contraptions of sea vessels. Upon closer look, one can discover the underlying concept in Mallari’s works as rooted in a utopian depiction of an imagined future forged from distinct characters in pop culture. His works blurs the distinction between a traditional, mimetic sculpture, and that of a post-modern industrial work of art.

Mario “Ram” Mallari Jr., 47, studied architecture, and worked as a skilled draftsman in the Middle East. In 2011, he started experimenting with iron, metal and reclaimed metals. He has mounted numerous one-man exhibitions and countless group exhibitions. His works have been exhibited in the House of Representatives, among other galleries, and was commissioned by the Ayala Museum for a permanent public installation in Nuvali, Laguna. Mallari was commissioned to make an artwork of the History Network logo, and the output greeted History Con guests at the main hall entrance last 2017. The popular cable channel is planning to have a TV special featuring this fast-rising contemporary artist.

“Metallurgy et Mechanica” will be on view from July 8 to 15, 2018 at the Ground Floor, U. P. Town Center, Katipunan Ave, Diliman, Quezon City, with the Artist Reception slated for July 14, Saturday, at 4 P.M.
