VIEW FROM HER CURVED UNIVERSE: CAMILLE VER’S INTERNAL MONOLOGUE EXHIBITS AT GALERIE JOAQUIN PODIUM

Soliloquy admits to advancing with leaps and bounds into a different territory; a new, unexplored pathway which marks a major deviation of Camille Ver by including human figures in her works, confessing the sources of both her inner struggles and fascinations.

For Soliloquy, Camille Ver communicates elements that developed from a psychological metamorphosis upon seeing news of a Paul Gaugin painting which sold for an astronomical amount at an auction entitled Nafea Faa Ipoipo? or When Will You Marry? A title quite intriguing for the artist herself.

Feeling the need to go deeper into this painting, Ver began to work from the familiar context of a resilient woman questioning her own resiliency. She delves into an inner dimension of her own emotions; starting from an apprehensive state of a solitary individual, then treading on to find grace in her surroundings instead of constantly looking in, and eventually eliminating discontent – ultimately mastering the art of aloneness.

Ver’s narrative in Soliloquy combines inconspicuous female figures with the characteristics of asymmetrical patterns. The conceptual visual vocabularies which used to create her language of paintings of reserved but concurring colors (based on her artistic influences such as Mark Rothko, Paul Gaugin, and Agnes Martin) feel free – it feels like a quiet home that only exists in the mind.

Camille Ver is one of the Philippines’ flag-bearers in contemporary abstractionism, building cityscapes into works that take its audience into a metropolis of colors and playful lines. Ver earned her degree in painting from the University of the Philippines’ College of Fine Arts in 2003. She then took a special course in Interior Design at the Philippine Institute of Interior Design. Ver previously co-founded and actively organized an art program of aiding underprivileged children. Currently, she traverses in her own modern jungle as a weekly art instructor at Learning Plus since 2006. With ten solo shows and twice as much group shows in her repertoire, Camille Ver continues to reshape the image of Philippine art, using the bricks and grids of her abstract burgs.

Soliloquy will be on view from April 10 - 21, 2018 with the Artist Reception scheduled for Tuesday, April 10 at 6PM. The exhibit is a continuation of the 15th anniversary celebrations of Galerie Joaquin through its second branch in the new wing of The Podium Mall.
