Three modern and contemporary senior artists from the Philippines will have a Manila preview from April 27 to May 4, 2009 at Galerie Stephanie, (Unit 1b. Parc Plaza Bldg. 183 E. These artists are Lydia Velasco, Mario Parial and Dominic Rubio. All three artists have their works featured in international auction houses such as Sotheby’s, Borobudur, Masterpiece and/or Larasati. They enjoy immense popularity not only in the Philippines but also in Southeast Asian region, particularly Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore.

Lydia Velasco is one of the country’s foremost women artists. A product of School of Fine Arts from University of Santo Tomas, Velasco had an outstanding career in advertising where she became Art Director for several multinational advertising agencies such as Philprom, DYR, J. Walter Thompson, Pacifica, Ace Compton, Basic Advertising and McCann-Erickson.

In 1988, she decided to become full time artist. Her works focus on women as her favorite subject, liberating then on her canvases where she depicts them as strong, independent, determined yet sensual and caring. To date she has nine major one woman exhibits including the much acclaimed Allure and La Danse exhibits held at Galerie Joaquin. Her most recent show was "Les Femmes" at Galerie Stephanie. Her works have been auctioned in Sotheby’s, Borobudur, Masterpiece and the Larasati auction houses on Southeast Asian art. Her works have also been featured in several international art fairs namely the Malaysian Art Expo (2008), Art Singapore (2007 and 2008) and CIGE Beijing (2009).

Mario Parial, is a product of University of Santo Tomas College of Fine Arts. His paintings evoke a strong folklike quality, characterized by vivid hues and design, often set in the colorful ambience of festivals and fiestas. His works evokes strong feelings for the environment painting as he does plants, flowers and entire vegetation. He has done female nudes, folk and mythological characters where women in various guises and roles occupy the central figure. His other concerns are painting women, harlequin and religious iconography.

His awards include winning first prize for the work "Flight in the Sun" from the prestigious Art Association of the Philippines painting competition in 1996. In 1972, he was awarded one of the Thirteen Artists Awardees of the Cultural Center of the Philippines. In 1978, he was a recipient of the Outstanding Thomasian Award from University of Santo Tomas. He also served as a professor at the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts. Today, he is one of the Philippines senior and most respected artists.

Dominic Rubio was born in Paete, Laguna, a lake shore town long famous for its woodcarving and artistic tradition. He studied at the University of Santo Tomas, College of Fine Arts. In his early years, after university, he traveled extensively among the tribal areas in Southern Philippines living among cultural groups such as Mandaya, the Bilaans and Tiboli tribes.

He had his first one man exhibit at the Ad Infinitum Galleries where he delved on the subject of women, the mother and child. He has had ove seven one-man exhibits to his credit in major galleries in Manila, Singapore and most recently in Hong Kong. His current works capture the nostalgia of Old Asia painted in a highly contemporary and endearing style. His works have been featured in past Southeast Asian art auctions as well as in Art Singapore (2007 and 2008). The Malaysian Art Expo (2008) and CIGE Beijing (2009).

These senior artists are accompanied by three emerging artists namely Chie Cruz (Rosario Cruz), Chigoe (Christina Cruz) and Owen Juanico (Rowena Juanico).
