BALUYUT’S "ODE TO WATER" Opens Tuesday, 27 November 2007

Karina Baluyut’s "Ode to Water" will open at 7 p.m. on November 27 at Galerie Raphael in Serendra. "Ode to Water" is Baluyut’s 3rd one-man show. It is a new direction taken by the artist in her "Journeys" series.

A board topnotcher in architecture, Baluyut has taken the artist’s brush on a full-time basis and undertaken journeys of ancient Asian cities and capitals such as Ankor Wat in Cambodia, Ayutthaya and Bankok in Thailand, Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam and the ancient Portuguese colony of Macau.

Her current journey has taken her to the world of water, in particular the sea. She now explores what her artist’s eye can see in the underwater world. This includes interesting forms and shapes of shells, scallops, corals and other marine life.

For "Ode to the Sea" Baluyut tries to capture the emotions that she feels pursuing her current interest in deep sea diving. "These forms and shapes that I see, as well as the emotions that I feel are what I try to capture in my paintings."

One of the original members of the Guevarra Group of Artists, Baluyut is influenced by Paul Klee, Marc Rothko and other abstract artists.

Her works are products of her own physical, emotional and psychological journeys.
