  "OBRAS" is GALERIE STEPHANIE’S INAUGURAL SHOW
Features various Artworks from the Masters


With over 40 Filipino artists being included in various international auctions, 2008 appears to be the year when Filipino art is finally earning its proper place besides its Chinese, Indian, Vietnamese and Indonesian counterparts.

At present, five major auction houses namely Sotheby’s and Christie’s in Hong Kong as well as Borobudur, Masterpiece and Larasati in Singapore have very strong Filipino sections in their Southeast Asian Fine Art or in their Contemporary Art catalogues.

In its inaugural presentation, Galerie Stephanie, a new gallery which formally opens its doors on Thursday, 7:00 p.m., the 24th of April 2008. Titled "Obras", the show features works of National Artists Fernando Amorsolo, Napoleon Abueva, Vicente Manansala, Cesar Legaspi, H.R Ocampo, Arturo Luz, J Elizalde Navarro, Ang Kiukok, Jose Joya, Bencab, Abdul Mari Imao, Presidential Medal of Merit awardees Federico Aguilar Alcuaz, Juvenal Sanso and Nena Saguil, and masters Mauro Malang Santos, Romulo Olazo and Ramon Orlina. According to Alona Dela Cruz, the Operations Director for Galerie Stephanie, the purpose of the show is because the Galerie "would like to pay tribute to the distinguished men and women who have helped make Filipinos all over the world proud because of their stellar accomplishments in art." Galerie Stephanie is located at Unit 1B, Parc Plaza Building, 183 E. To make the project possible, Galerie Stephanie has tried to reach out to the artists’ themselves, their families or their collectors. According to Cruz, "the support has been encouraging. We will try to put together a master’s show at least once a year. We hope to have several tributes in the forthcoming years to come but we would be most honored if you could join us for this particular one."

The work from National Artist Napoleon Abueva is titled "Sculpture Bench". There are two rare Aguilar Alcuaz watercolors coming from his Madrid series done while the artist still resided in Europe as well as a major work in oil coming from his Two Moon series There is also a major work from National Artist Fernando Amorsolo titled "Salambao", a figurative rare work from National Artist Arturo Luz titled "Celebration Juggler", a major work from Presidential Merit Awardee Nena Saguil from her islands series, a rare acrylic on canvas floral work from Sanso, two works in gouache on paper from Romulo Olazo, a set of prints done by Anita Magsaysay Ho, a Sarimanok sculpture in brass by Abdul Mari Imao, a major sculpture in glass by Ramon Orlina and several more works from other masters.
