MORADA’S ‘OBRA PRO NOBIS’
OPENS MARCH 27 AT GALERIE JOAQUIN MAIN
After a long wait, Galerie Joaquin is pleased to announce that it will be hosting the much anticipated current one man-show of avant-garde artist Jerry Morada. The exhibit titled "Obra Pro Nobis" which opens Thursday, March 27, 2008 at 7 p.m. at Galerie Joaquin’s Main Gallery will have 18 works from the highly talented artist.
Morada’s last one-man exhibit occurred in January 2005. It was titled "Ang Pag-ibig ni Maria" and received much critical and commercial acclaim. According to Andrea Cruz, Galerie Joaquin’s Operations Director, "The long wait is because after the 2005 exhibit, Morada’s works became very much in demand in the Southeast Asian art circuit. It became quite difficult to put together enough works for a project such as this."
Galerie Joaquin Main is located at 371 P. Guevarra st. corner Montessori Lane, Addition Hills, San Juan with website www.galeriejoaquin.com and tel:7239253 and 7239418. The shows runs until April 10 while the preview starts on March 24. A product of the University of the Philippines’ College of Fine Arts, Morada is among the country’s most innovative and experimental young artists. His major concern is to portray his figures in a timeless dimension but in thought-provoking circumstances. This particular collection is most riveting, featuring women in varying situations exploring their essence and sense of being. With Morada, tradition is only his take off point for him to bring the viewer with him in his own conceptual explorations towards a highly contemporary outlook of the world. What makes his works intriguing is the unpredictability of the situations he portrays his figures utilizing as he does his own unique composition, lines, color and texture to depict the world as seen only by Jerry Morada.
In three of the recent auctions in Singapore, Morada’s works were prominently included. All of them performed creditably well. Morada was first included in auction with the Larasati auction house in April 2007 where his oil on canvas work titled Memories sold successfully. Larasati was very much pleased with the performance of Morada’s art that in its October 2007 auction it included three of the artist’s works. These were Tanda ng Di Paglilmot (Remembrance of What Should Not be Forgotten), Kalayaan (Freedom) and The Secret of the Brown Scapular. All three works sold successfully with Kalayaan almost reaching double the minimum estimate.
Masterpiece auction house, one of the largest auction houses in Indonesia which recently opened its doors in Singapore last March 2, 2008 also included a Jerry Morada work titled Heart Shaped.
The exhibit "Obra Pro Nobis" includes works such as Bukal ng Apoy at Tubig (Spring of Fire and Water), Desire, Heat, Himig sa Makulay na Lumipas, Sala sa Init Sala sa Lamig and Barefeet. |
