In Celebration of National Heritage Month
GALERIE JOAQUIN PRESENTS "LA MUSIQUE IV", OPENS MAY 16
Classical musicians to perform
In celebration of National Heritage Month, Galerie Joaquin is presenting 40 paintings in a show titled "La Musique IV," from senior artists such as National Artist Arturo Luz, Sotheby’s favorites Sanso, Lydia Velasco, and Mario Parial as well as popular contemporary artists Manny Garibay, Bernard Vista, Dominic Rubio, Jerry Morada, Bayani Ray Acala, Vincent de Pio, Edwin Tres Reyes and members of the Guevarra Group of Artists.
"La Musique IV" is the fourth in a series of annual exhibitions and one of the most popular group shows of Galerie Joaquin. Opening Tuesday, May 16 at 6:00 P.M. at The Centre Gallery of Galerie Joaquin Main, it pays tribute to one of the more powerful and solid expressions of the human spirit. "La Musique IV" captures the beauty of two art forms as it fully integrates the binding force that visual arts and music possess in awakening life’s senses, nurturing the spirit, and reviving the long-lost soul. In their works, the artists explore various human emotions uniquely expressed in music as they create their own rhythms, melody, texture, and harmony on their individual canvases. Galerie Joaquin is located at 371 P. Guevarra St. cor. Montessori Lane, Addition Hills, San Juan. For info, call 723-9253 / 723-9418 or visit www.galeriejoaquin.com.
Now in its fourth year, the "La Musique" exhibition began in 2003 with the vision of depicting on canvas the diversity that music offers and the distinctive impact it has on people. It also envisioned a synergy of minds and artistic flair among artists bound in a festive gathering of art enthusiasts and music lovers to celebrate the two art forms.
Also featured in the opening of "La Musique IV" on May 16 are the country’s top tenors and sopranos as well as classical musicians. Live performances will be rendered by soprano Josecphine Gomez and tenor Frankie Aseniero. Classical pieces will also be performed by internationally renowned pianist Raul Sunico and top flutist Sonny Yangco. Yamaha will be providing a special piano for the occasion.
For "La Musique IV," Lydia Velasco has submitted a 48" x 84" work which she has titled "La Musique". The painting shows five women with various musical instruments, under a summer moon. Aside from this mural-sized work, Velasco also submitted four smaller works in various sizes.
Filipiniana surrealist Jerry Morada has four works sized 36" x 48" including the highly intriguing "Musika" showing only the upper parts of numerous musical instruments. The Galerie will also be exhibiting two works sized 36" x 36" done by National Artist Arturo Luz titled "Performers: Two Musicians I" and "Performers: Two Musicians II." Parial submitted a 36" x 48" work titled "Three Musicians" in acrylic on canvas. Sanso’s works on paper are 19.75" x 25.5" piece entitled "Symphony for Spring" and 19.5" x 26" painting titled "Autumn Concerto."
Vincent de Pio has three works titled "Black & White Cellist," "Encore," "Performance," and "Two Musicians" done in various sizes while Bernard Vista’s works include 48" x 36" piece titled "Ensemble" and 40" x 40" "Violin" piece.
It is hoped that this year’s exhibit will continue to fascinate viewers as more and more interpretations of music are conceived on canvas. "La Musique IV" invites the viewing public to rediscover the connection between their emotions and surroundings as they experience the power of music and visual arts.
Since music covers a whole breadth of emotions, it creates different responses among people. It can enhance the mood, unlock deep memories or hidden feelings, and free the mind from anxieties and inhibitions. Music becomes a language of man’s inner spirit, consciously or subconsciously working to reveal a message, need, or desire.
