"EMBRACE" EXHIBIT CELEBRATES THE SEASON OF LOVE

"Embrace", a thematic art exhibit focused on paintings about romantic love, courtship, passion, motherly love as well as objects of love, beauty and affection opens at The Main Gallery of Galerie Joaquin on February 7, 2006.

The show which runs until February 21, features works of Mario Parial, Marcel Antonio, Manny Garibay, Lydia Velasco, Dominic Rubio, Jerry Morada, Vincent de Pio, Bayani Ray Acala, Elmer Roslin, and members of the Guevarra Group of Artists.

Works of Manny Garibay included in the exhibit are three of his 36" x 36" works from his "Yakap Series (IV, V, and VII)". These are oil on canvas works which depict lovers in impassioned embrace. The intimacy and affection between the lovers are visually carried to a deeper level through the abstraction of their figures dissolving into complimentary colors, while their union becomes powerfully highlighted through the use of gold tones and hues on their bodies.

Jerry Morada, Manila’s highly popular Filipiniana surrealist, strangely excites the viewer’s senses once more with his 30" x 48" work titled "Maria’s Knight (Indio Banquerro)". The work shows a woman with hair standing on end yet regal in her baro’t saya, riding a banca with orange toy wheel, while a distinguished-looking man in a distinct overcoat holds a paddle and a knight chess piece hovers infront of him. Highly symbolical, this painting opens endless interpretations about the undeniable connection between the two persons and triumphs in juxtaposing the modern and the traditional.

Marcel Antonio visually delights both the senses and the intellect with his works extracted from Greek Mythology which unfold as complete visual legends. One of these, a 36" x 24" oil on canvas titled "Daphne and Apollo" is a depiction of the Greek myth about Apollo’s unrequited love for Daphne, wherein Daphne implored the god Zeus to make her vanish. Zeus obliges by turning her into a laurel tree to allow her to completely escape the affection of the war god. Consumed with love for Daphne, Apollo chose to always wear a wreath of laurel leaves in remembrance of her. The others are "Homage to the Little Prince" and "The Wanderers".

Mario Parial, Lydia Velasco, Manny Garibay and Bernard Vista have "Mother and Child" works for this exhibit, as they pay special homage to the nurturing love, care and affection given by a mother to her child.
