BERNARD VISTA, A MAJOR SOLO EXHIBIT
Bernard Vista, one of Pakil, Laguna’s most exciting visual artists, opens his major exhibit, Wednesday, August 24, 2005 at Galerie Joaquin-Main.
Vista will be presenting 25 works, in oil on canvas done over the past two years. The works are modern and creative cubist interpretations of the Filipino way of life. The show also features Vista’s optimistic and heart-warming interpretations of select rural customs and traditions. All the works bear the unmistakable Vista imprint of optimism. The characters in Vista’s works enjoy life’s simple pleasures, whether at work or at play. His figures are self-possessed and satisfied, exuding inner peace and tranquility.
Vista was a scholar of the Saturday group of artists under National artist Cesar Legaspi, a validation of his exceptional artistic talent very early in his career. His figures are often with their heads bowed, symbolic of reverence and humility, two traits Vista finds very important in human beings.
In this exhibit, Vista will be presenting several major artworks, such as the 48" x 48" "Bayanihan", the 36" x 48" "Masaganang Ani", 36" x 48" "Fish Harvest" and the 60" x 72" "Biyaya" (Blessings). Vista’s works are inspired by the people around him in Pakil - the fishermen, farmers, people who work on the earth and with their hands, who have all become the main subjects of his paintings.
The exhibit also features his vendors series, a set of four works, sized 18" x 48", aptly titled, "Fruit Vendors", "Vegetable Vendors", "Flower Vendors", and "Fish Vendors". He also has several paintings on courtship, "Harana Series", the fish harvest, and Mother and Child paintings
