"ABSTRACT EMERALDS" TO CAP ORLINA’S YEAR 2007
Opens 5 December 2007 at Galerie Joaquin Main

In celebration of a remarkable year for the artist, Galerie Joaquin has slated a major show featuring 30 of sculptor Ramon Orlina’s major works. The show has become even more timely with the record prices reached by an Orlina piece in the Nov. 25, 2007 Christie’s auction of South East Asian Art in Hong Kong. The 16 ˝ in. tall sculpture "Venus V" sold for HK$ 247,500 or PHP 1,361,250. This is six times higher than the minimum estimate set by the auction house for the piece. Two Orlina pieces likewise sold at record prices in an earlier Christie’s auction held last May, also in Hong Kong.

Titled "Abstract Emeralds", the show opens at 7:00 pm, Dec. 5, 2007. Galerie Joaquin Main is located at 371 P. Guevarra Street, corner Montessori Lane, Addition Hills, San Juan, (tel. 7239253 or 7239418). For more information, please visit www.galeriejoaquin.com.

This year marks Orlina’s 30th year as an artist starting his career with the work "ARCANUM XIX Paradise Gained". Interestingly, although he started his first art works with a painting, his first one-man show were paintings on glass.

This started a life long love affair glass as his medium. Prismatic glass sculptures followed next until he was able to launch his Glass Sculptures series at the Ayala Museum in 1983.

"Abstract Emeralds" is the artist’s 28th one man show in a stellar career that has taken him to distinguished galleries in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Hong Kong and the United States. He has also participated in group shows in Sweden, Australia, Japan, Norway, Italy, Brunei, China, Czechoslovakia, and Morocco.
