A Green Light of Hope
Green Light, The Lasallian Festival of Art opens with an exhibit of the finest works of art donated by some of the country’s most respected modern and contemporary artists and leading galleries at 6:00 p.m. on November 26 at the Exhibit Area, Level 3, Shangri-La Plaza Mall.
This is the third Green Light exhibition to be held this year to mark the centennial of the Lasallian presence in the Philippines. Proceeds of the sale of the donated artworks held last February and April will benefit scholars in 17 Lasallian schools nationwide. The exhibit on November 26 will also benefit the victims of typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng.
Green Light, The Lasallian Festival of Art is presented by One La Salle in cooperation with Shangri-La Plaza Mall. It is inspired by the work of St. John Baptist de la Salle who more than 300 years ago was moved by the plight of poor young people and envisioned providing education for them and those at risk in the community. This was the green light, the signal to go the extra mile beyond the self, to harness resources to help those who need it most. Today, the Brothers of the Christian Schools continue De La Salle’s work by heeding the call - One La Salle, a scholar for every five students.
Green Light, The Lasallian Festival of Art will be held until December 15. The selection of works in various media ranges from the traditional to the unexpected: a mother-and-child painting by a modern master is only a wall away from a young artist’s whimsical new work. The project is supported by Galerie Joaquin, Galerie Francesca, Galerie Stephanie, Galerie Raphael, The Crucible Gallery and Britania Art projects.
Among the works that are included in the Green Light Project are works of National Artists Arturo Luz and Federico Aguilar Alcuaz and Presidential Medal of Merit Awardees Juvenal Sanso and Betsy Westendorp. Also included are works by Tam Austria, Jose Joya, Ramon Orlina, Mario Parial, Lydia Velasco, Carlo Magno, Dominic Rubio, Aldrino Abes, Bayani Ray Acala, Armenius Aralar, Manuel Baldemor, Karina Baluyut, Amador Barquilla, Jovan Benito, Glenn Cagandahan, Michael Cacnio, Daniel dela Cruz, Joselito Dayono, Jomar Delluba, Henry Ordona, Ronino Quinto and Edwin Tres Reyes. |
