In Commemoration of National Heritage Month
Tam Austria, Parial, and Velasco to talk in "Art Thoughts"

To cap its celebration of National Heritage Month, Galerie Joaquin has calendared a lecture-discussion about the role of the Filipina in Philippine Contemporary Art under its “Art Thoughts” program on Sunday, May 28, 4:00 p.m. at the 2nd Floor of Galerie Joaquin Main in San Juan. Featured guest speakers in the talk are senior painters Tam Austria, Mario Parial, and Lydia Velasco—three visual artists identified in the art scene with their unique and highly creative individual styles in the rendition of women. The artists will share their own thoughts, ideals, and observations of the Filipina today. Art enthusiasts, collectors and the general public are invited to the lecture-discussion.

Painter, book author, and philosopher Tam Austria is well recognized for the timeless and universal appeal of his traditional women figures bound by the themes of rural life. His 24” x 18” “Mother & Child and a Woman” painting for instance depicts the nurturing and tender affection of a Filipina mother to her child.

Mario Parial, on the other hand, presents in his upbeat and colorful canvases the different roles Filipina women have devoted themselves to over the years. His 30” x 24” “Honey Vendor” visually explores a woman vendor’s innocence and positive aura as she goes about her chores selling honey.

Lydia Velasco reveals more of the Filipina woman’s adventure and inner strength as she explores ways to elevate the stature of women through her canvas. Her women are at once feminine and sensual although depicting strength of character and a sense of independence.

Galerie Joaquin is located at 371 P. Guevarra St. cor. Montessori Lane, Addition Hills, San Juan, Metro Manila. For more details, please contact 723-9253 / 723-9418 or visit www.galeriejoaquin.com.
